To put the past to rest, Ryan will need to face the painful truth of their relationship, and the night when everything changed. Even with her movie career long behind her, Ryan and Fiona are suddenly the object of uncomfortable speculation-and Fiona demands Ryan’s support. Forced to reexamine her childhood, Ryan begins to untangle her young fears and her mother’s ambitions, and the role each played in the fraught blackout summer of 1977. Suddenly, the safety and comfort Ryan longs for is replaced by auditions, paparazzi, and the hungry eyes of men of all ages. Amid the city’s gritty kaleidoscope of wealth and poverty, high art, and sleazy strip clubs, Ryan is discovered and thrust into the spotlight as a promising young actress with a woman’s face and a child’s body. Memories crowd in, providing their own distinctive pictures of her mother Fiona, an aspiring actress, and their move to the West Village in 1976. A controversial photo of her as a pre-teen has been found in the possession of a wealthy investor recently revealed as a pedophile and a sex trafficker-with an inscription to him from Ryan’s mother on the back. Living peacefully in Vermont, Ryan Flannigan is shocked when a text from her oldest friend alerts her to a devastating news item. In 1970s New York, her innocence is seductive. I highly recommend reading this book.Be one of the first to read this sneak preview sample edition! Against the nostalgic grit of 1970s New York City, the precarious lines between girl and woman, art and obscenity, fetish and fame flicker and ignite for a young girl on the brink of stardom and a mother on the verge of collapse in this vividly lyrical drama from the award-winning author T. The characters were very well made and meshed together, and the atmosphere of the wand shop was amazing. I loved that we were able to get a head start in the next book. Since the books are shorter than most, I might be able to read them all rather quickly.Īt the end of the book, there is a sneak peak into book 2, which is really awesome. Other than that, the book was very well put together and a great read. I also would have liked to read more descriptions of the scenes. I loved how quickly I was able to read the book, but I truly wish there was more to it. He eventually finds that Amy is very valuable to his work and she should help more often. Amy wiggles her way into helping Ambrose with the case. It also made this book that much more interesting for me because I was wondering if Ambrose and Amy were meant to be together or not.Īs for the mystery of the novel, I loved every minute of it. Sometimes, authors can put too much emphasis on the romance and then lose the plot. I enjoyed that Laura and Arizona kept the plot more toward the mystery aspect and not so much on the romance. I absolutely love how smoothly they work together. This makes them have an amazing contrast together. Amy is constantly making jokes and having fun with life. This characteristic makes him perfect to partner up with Amy. He does not react to it like most people would. This makes him the easiest family member to take care of.Īmbrose is one of those characters who just stands there when a joke is being told. Herb is nice though because he does not need fed all the time or watered. Amy talks to him as if he is alive, which confuses Ambrose. I want to start with Herb, the gargoyle cat. On top of the laughs, there is a very good mystery that needs solved, which I enjoyed following along to see where it ended. There were a bunch of laughs throughout the story, I have never laughed so hard at a book before. I completely related to Amethyst, who goes by Amy. My first impression of the book was how well the characters were written in it. This series starts out with the book Hexes and Vexes by Laura Greenwood and Arizona Tape. When I was told my Laura Greenwood that the Amethyst’s Wand Shop Mysteries would be a good series to read by her, I hopped on it right away. ![]()
